DAY 01: GUATEMALA CITY / EL ESTOR
Meet at Maya Expeditions office, at 15:00 (3:00 p.m.). Board bus
for land transfer to El Estor, where dinner and hotel will be awaiting.
*Note: If prefer a hotel at Rio Dulce, ask about this option (for
the entire group). If group desires, departure may be early morning
on day 1, and visit the archaeological site of Quiriguá.
DAY 02: EL ESTOR / OXEC / RIO cahabon
After and early breakfast, at 7:00 am transfer by land to Chulac,
along the banks of the Cahabón river. Safety and orientation
talk and we board the rafts for an incredible ride running the river
below. The day is full of excitement as we run the "Lower Gorge"
where the river enters a beautiful and lush canyon for a perfect
combination of exciting rapids, tranquil pools, pristine cave formations
and a natural Jacuzzi formed by a thermal side stream, we've dubbed
"The Little Paraiso". Take advantage of this remote place
to admire the multi-colored birds surrounded by the beautiful scenery
of this rarely visited region. In the afternoon we arrive at the
bridge at Cahaboncito, our take-out, where we transfer to awaiting
vehicle for a short ride back to El Estor. Dinner and lodge at a
local hotel.
DAY 03: EL ESTOR / FINCA PARAISO / GUATEMALA CITY
Breakfast and board vehicle for a visit to Finca El Paraiso (Paradise),
where you can spend time swimming in either
cold, lukewarm or hot waters in pools that form as the fresh stream
that flows from the cave meet a thermal spring. Spend a leisure
and relaxed day after the emotions of the white water the day before.
Lunch at Río Dulce (on your own), and continue return trip
to Guatemala City. Time allowing we will visit the archaeological
site of Quiriguá, and scrutinize its rare zoomorphologic
structures and the finely carved stelae. Arrive to Guatemala City
in the evening.
OPTION: The visit to El Paraiso may be shorter and a brief stop
at Castillo de San Felipe (old Spanish fort built to control attacks
from pirates) can be done. Lunch at Río Dulce and board bus
for return trip to Guatemala City.
* Take advantage of your stop
at Río Dulce to feel the emotion of bungee Jumping from the
bridge. 100 feet fall, and the possibility of splashing into the
water of the river bellow. Suggested Options:
Post Tours: 1 to 2 Day Rio Dulce/Livingston
3 to 4 Day Belize Keys Diving
1 to 2 Day Copan Ruins
INCLUSIONS: Land transportation from Guatemala
and back to Guatemala, all river and lake transportation, all hotel
accommodations (base DBL or TPL occupancy), all meals as described
in itinerary, entrance fees to the waterfalls, services of professional river guides
and all personnel.
EXCLUSIONS: Personal clothing and equipment, meals
designated as (on your own) in itinerary, beers, alcoholic beverages
and soft drinks, all personal expenses, extras in hotels, tips to
guides, drivers and hotel personnel.
WHAT TO BRING:
You must consider that the environment is that of a tropical region. Sun may be bright at noon and mosquitoes, even though not overwhelming, are something to take into consideration. Space is limited in this type of expedition, to avoid inconvenience, your personal equipment must be only a small handbag with your personal belongings.

1 pair shoes to get wet (tennis or river sandals)

Insect repellant
Sun block
Strong eye glass (or sun glass) holder (if necessary)
Light jacket or raincoat (for the rainy season)
Small duffel with a towel and change of clothes, for the take out when you get off the river
