The Murals were first found in 1945. Even with their graphic depictions of the torture of captives, Eric Thompson's argument of the Maya Benevolent Utopian society still held. The dripping blood from fingernails pulled out was interpreted to by ink from pots where scribes would dip their fingers. This idea was not even allowed to change until Tatiana Proskouriakoff's paper in 1960 which proved the writings of the Maya were historical writings depicting the kings life, accomplishments and death thus were not the writings of a society who worshiped time and the stars.
