El Mirador Looted Ceramic found by guardians - Maya Archaeology site Maya Quarry site with cut blocks left in place. Nakbe - Maya Archaeology site

Witness the grandeur of the largest Pre-classic site of the Maya. Dr. Richard Hansen has been excavating the site of El Mirador and Nakbé for over 20 years, first as a graduate student and then as director. He has recently discovered a new site that is proving to have detailed pre-classic writings inscribed on a tomb's inner wall. With the expertise of a Maya Expedition guide in combination with the local cooperative tourism commission, a 7 day tour is available to visit the sites of El Mirador, Nakbé and smaller sites in the region. Replicated Maya terraced farm plots can be seen in this outpost village at the start of our journey. Walk or ride your horse the 56 km to the entrance to this great city. Climb El Tigre, the tallest temple of the Maya--more than 18 stories high--to view the distant temples of Nakbé and the ever expanding jungle.
Walk the Sakbé of the Maya, the causeway that connected these two cities in Preclassic time. For those of you less inclined for the arduous of this trip, helicopter trips are available, minimum of 4 people.
