NAKBE / EL MIRADOR
6:00am Helicopter flight from Guatemala City to Santa Elena Peten, refuel. Continue onto the site of Nakbe. Land close to the site. Visit the site of Nakbé, the former ruling city state of the area who saw decline to the rising El Mirador. Tour the West Codice, and Benson complex as well as structure 27 with it's impressive looters tunnel. We will see various chultuns dug by the Maya and the quarry still partially cut close by the center of the site. Lunch within the ruins.

Return to Helicopter for a short trip to the impressive ruins of El Mirador. View the temple of of el Danta from the air. Land in the former Archaeological camp to the side of the magnificent temple called El Tigre. Explore fortification walls, causeways, temples El Tigre, Mono, and all other sections discussed in the September 1987, issue of "National Geographic".

Option: Overnight in Camino Real Tikal. Day 2 Visit to the ruins of Tikal.
