Yaxha- Topxote More Information Page

Yaxhá is used as a stopping off place for trips visiting more remote ruins such as Nakúm, Naranjo, Holmul, Cival or Cochkitam, either on foot, by horse or 4-wheel drive.

Lake Yaxhá, the site of the same name is situated under the clinging vines and forest life that has enveloped it for more than six centuries. Previous excavations revealed great treasures of classic nobles who wished to bring the markings and comforts of their status with them into the underworld.

Visit the site after arriving to the comfortable bungalows of El Sombrero Ecological Lodge located on the shores of Lake Yaxhá. We then use a boat to visit the island archaeological site of Topoxté where recent excavations and renovations show occupation during both Preclassic and post classic times.

Experience a refreshing jungle scene, join us in a one or two day rafting trip down the Chiquibul river. The three days excursion includes a visit to a large Maya Cave were hundreds of pot chards are on the cave floor enclosed by a sacred wall that separates the physical world with the spiritual underworld. This trip incorporates the local villages participating in the eco-tourism of the area.
