Leisure & Sightseeing CHICHICASTENANGO/LAKE ATITLAN AND antigua

(03 DAYS AND 02 NIGHTS )

 

Day One:

 

Depart from your hotel and be transferred to the town of Chichicastenango , renowned for its most colorful market. Visiting the Church of Santo Toma s (a whitewashed colonial structure built around 1540 on the site of an ancient Mayan altar), wherein the locals celebrate both Catholic and pagan rites. Afterwards we drive to Panajache l, located on the north shore of Lake Atitlan , one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and where we will spend the night. (Lunch and dinner not included).

 

Day Two:

 

After breakfast, we will take a boat trip around the lake, admiring both the towering volcanoes of San Pedro, Toliman and Atitlan and the picturesque villages that adorn the shores of the lake. We will stop off in Santiago Atitlan where we will visit its church. Return to Panajachel . We will then depart from Lake Atitlan to the colonial city of Antigua where we will spend the night. (Lunch and dinner not included).

 

Day three:

 

Breakfast and a visit to the Colonial City of Antigua, founded in 1543 and recently declared a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO and a Monument of the Americas. We will walk the cobblestone streets of Antigua Guatemala visiting, the Central Plaza or Plaza de Armas , the Cathedral (built between 1543 and 1680), the Palace of the Captains General, with its 26 two-story arches, the City Hall (built in 1743), and the Churches of the Merced and San Francisco amongst others, and finally a visit to the local native handicraft market and then return to the City and your hotel.
