Spanish is the official language. There
are 24 spoken languages, 21 of those are of Mayan origin.
The total amount of Mayan language speakers is over five million
inhabitants.
Religion
In Guatemala, the freedom of religion is guaranteed by the
Constitution. The population is mostly Catholic, followed
by Protestants and then other cults, including of Maya origin.
Time Zone
The Guatemalan time zone is six hours behind the Greenwich
Meridian. Guatemala does not change for Daylight savings.
Currency
The Quetzal is the legal tender. All banks are authorized
to exchange any kind of foreign currency, although the United
States dollar is the only one currently exchangeable. Credit
cards such as Master Card, Visa, American Express and Diners
Club are widely accepted. In different points of the capital
city, as well as La Aurora airport, currency can be exchanged.
Banks outside of the city also exchange currency.
