Tammy Ridenour, Owner/Operator
Languages: English-Spanish-Chinese (conversational)
B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature from University of
Colorado at Boulder, 1983.
Tammy has used her excellent language abilities to immerse
herself and her business into the Guatemalan culture. Her
nursing experience has allowed her to bring a calm, compassionate
and safe style to her guiding. Her first trip down the Usumacinta
river was in 1985 and set the stage for her move into Guatemalan
territory to seek out the possible adventures and Maya sites
that Guatemala has to offer. She has lived in Guatemala since
1987 and has taken various courses on Mayan hieroglyphic writings
and the study of iconography.
Her travels to over 30 Maya sites in Guatemala and Mexico
have given her a deep insight into the travel networks and
happenings of the Maya life during their heyday. With over
12 first descents/explorations on Guatemala white water rivers,
her adventurous spirit allows the expedition to visit these
little known sites with ease. "What a terrific job you
carried out on our Usumacinta river expedition. Fearless leader,
I'll follow you anywhere."
