El Peru, a once heavily looted site is
presently being excavated by Dr. David Fridel and Lic. Hector
Escobedo. They have been able to extract from the looted site
much more material that even they could have hoped for. Their
recent discovery of a Queen's burial in the Plaza with more
than 1000 pieces of jade will help them piece together the
history of El Peru.
Their diligent work has put together many
of the lost hieroglyphic and icons of stele left by the looters.
El Peru, is located close to the Scarlet
Macaw Research Station where efforts to save the Macaw from
poaching and extinction are being made by Conservation organizations
and the local people. We use their station as a base for our
voyeurs into El Peru.
